Good morning, NAC Leaders – We need your help communicating the correct national, toll-free number that serves as a “front door” to VA, and rid your organization of references to a retired number.
The Department of Veterans Affairs established 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411) in 2020 to help Veterans, their family members, caregivers, and survivors understand and access the broad spectrum of VA benefits and services. VA’s previous information number, 1-844-MyVA311, was retired at that time.
Since that transition, MyVA311 has been repurposed by a non-federal entity claiming to be a medical equipment provider. Veterans may try to call VA using the MyVA311 number and unintentionally divulge personal information.
If your organization has any materials or references on websites to 1-844-MyVA311 (1-844-698-2311), please discard the materials and correct your website to reflect the current number of 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411).
It is imperative that Veterans are informed that 1-800-MyVA411 is the appropriate number to call for information pertaining to:
· COVID-19 updates
· Health care eligibility and enrollment
· VA benefits, such as disability, compensation and pension, education programs, caregiver support, insurance, home loans, and burial headstones and markers among others
· The nearest VA medical centers, benefits offices or cemeteries to Veterans, VA Medical Center operational updates and connection to VA Medical Center operators
· Directory assistance and technical support for www.VA.gov
· Debt and payment options
Thank you for taking time to address this issue. We greatly appreciate the work you do to support Veterans.

(VAVS) Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service
The Forty & Eight, as are most Veterans Organizations, is an active member and participant in the VAVS program. As part of this program, Voyageurs (called Representatives or Deputy Representatives) represent the Forty and Eight by regularly attending the VAVS Committee meetings at their Local Veteran Administration Medical Centers (VAMC’s). They as well as other Voyageur Volunteers visit the VAMC’s on a regular basis, where they give comfort and assistance to, or just visit with, the hospitalized veterans. VAVS Volunteers are a priceless asset to the Nation’s Veterans and to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Forty & Eight has adopted an additional program for these veterans, called "Keep Those Wheelchairs Rolling." Under this program, the VAVS Representative (or Deputy Representative) writes a brief letter outlining a "need" of the patients. These "needs" may cover a project, equipment or comfort and convenience items needed by the hospitalized veterans. The entries are then judged on the need and benefit to the patients, and those selected receive the item(s) requested, courtesy of the National Box Car Association.
