Florida Veteran Named New 40&8 National Commander

INDIANAPOLIS  Sept 2013   The national Forty & Eight veterans organization is pleased to announce Pat Beamer of Fernandina Beach, Florida, was elected Chef de Chemin de Fer, or national commander, of the Forty & Eight at its 94th annual national convention, on September 14, 2013, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Beamer, a 1967 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and career Supply Corps Officer qualified in submarines, retired as a United States Navy Captain with 26 years of service.  He holds Master’s degrees from The University of Michigan and the United States Naval War College.

Chef de Chemin de Fer Beamer has been active in veterans’ fraternal organizations for over four decades.  A member of the Forty & Eight since 1984, he has held command and leadership positions at the local, state and national levels; including Florida State Commander, National Membership Director, National Director of Ritual and the national leadership team for Forty & Eight’s longstanding Nurses Training program.

The Forty & Eight, founded in 1920, is a charitable honor society of American veterans.  Its programs include Nurses Training, Child Welfare, Flags for First Graders, Carville Hansens Disease Center support, VA Voluntary Service programs, and programs supporting American troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. --- The group’s terminology and customs, unique among veteran organizations, derives from the experience of American troops in France during the First World War.
