Alaska Veteran Named 40&8 National Commander

 

INDIANAPOLIS  October 6, 2005   The national headquarters of the "Forty & Eight" veterans organization announced today that Thomas R. Stockmal of Fairbanks, Alaska,  was elected Chef de Chemin de Fer, or national commander, of the Forty & Eight veterans organization at its 86th annual national convention held in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 24, 2005.

Originally from Connecticut, Stockmal and wife, Mary Lynn, have lived in Alaska since the mid 1970’s. After serving in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1972, Stockmal worked in Florida and Anchorage, Alaska, before moving to Fairbanks.  Now retired, Stockmal is the former Production Comptroller for the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska.  

Stockmal is a long time member of Forty & Eight’s Voiture Locale 1159 and a member of American Legion Post 11, both of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Founded in 1920, the Forty & Eight is a charitable honor society of American wartime veterans.  Its programs include Nurses Training, Child Welfare, Flags for First Graders, Carville Hansens Disease Center support, VA Voluntary Service programs and a support program for American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan hospitalized in Germany.
